Despite of the name that they call themselves, this band is far from being alienated. They merely started with wanting to play rock music with a bunch of friends in 2001, and have come a long way since, marking their way through stardom.
Estranged was offered to perform in their first gig in 2001 at TwelveSI and after that they just did not stop. The current line-up is Rich L. Gimbang as vocalist, Din Hormatov as rhythm guitarits or backup vocalist, Nor Hanafi as lead guitarist and Azwin Andy as the drummer. Former members were Adzrai and Ken Chung who departed to further pursue their studies and career respectively.
They were inspired to produce their first album after performing in Malaysia's annual rock festival in December 2003, Rock The World IV. Their debut album, In Hating Memory, was launched in 2005 with singles "Velocity" and "Chocolate Syrup" getting aired on commercial radio stations. The album includes 10 English tracks and 1 Malay track and was later repackaged and reproduced in 2007 with the track "Itu Kamu" as its single.
Now three years later, they have recently released their latest album, named Remain Unknown, on 13th October 2008. Other than the singles "Yang Pernah" and "Aurora", it contains "The Slave In Us", a song produced based on the band's personal observations and thoughts regarding current political situation in this country.
Estranged recently played for Samson's album launch at Bar Savanh Too (31/7/2008) Mon't Kiara and at Republik (1/8/2008) Sunway Pyramid, for Xfresh X GIG IV (16/8.2008) at Borneo Rainforest, Sunway and at A Mild Live Soundrenaline 2008 ‘Free Your Voice’ in Indonesia.
You can catch them at several gigs this November and December, including in New York and Somerville on the 2nd and 3rd November. Check their schedule here - http://estrangedmusic.blogspot.com/.
