Vermillion originally started as The Controllers back in 2006 where Alie on drums,Hana on guitars and Syahnaz on bass pioneered the band. Pada 5 Oktober 2009 lalu, bertempat di Restoran Seri Melayu, Kuala Lumpur. Satu majlis yang cukup meriah telah diadakan bagi mengumumkan pemenang-pemenang Peraduan Merekacipta Adiwira Malaysia 2009.

Peraduan ini telah dianjurkan oleh Dream Chorus Sdn Bhd melalui laman web yang terkini www.gundu.com.my dengan kerjasama Persatuan Penggiat Komik Malaysia (PeKomik) dan mendapat sokongan penuh oleh Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDeC).

Pada tahun ini, superhero Kapten Chicken yang dicipta oleh Mohd Fahmi Bakar telah memenangi tempat pertama dalam peraduan mencari superhero-superhero Malaysia. Tempat kedua pula di menangi oleh Irwan Hidayat Anuar dengan superhero ciptaannya, Taring Keramat. Superhero Topeng Sakti ciptaan Mohd Nor Basar telah menduduki tempat ketiga.

Bagi pemenang-pemenang tempat ke empat hingga ke lapan, mereka telah menerima Angerah Merit Pengadil sebagai saguhati penyertaan mereka dalam Peraduan Merekacipta Adiwira Malaysia 2009.

Anugerah Merit Pengadil ini telah dihadiahkan kepada Mohd Hairy Baharum dengan Bayang sebagai superheronya, superhero Defender Z ciptaan Mohd Nor Basar, superhero Amok ciptaan Ahmad Syajaril Mohd Radzi, superhero Purnama Malam ciptaan Nursyafawati Norhisham, dan superhero Mas Selamat ciptaan Noramin Mohamad Daud.

Pemenang-pemenang Peraduan Merekacipta Adiwira Malaysia 2009 ini telah menerima wang tunai, plak penghargaan, dan sijil penghargaan.

InsyaAllah, pencarian superhero-superhero Malaysia yang baru akan kembali pada tahun hadapan dengan lebih ramai penyertaan dan lebih banyak hadiah bakal dimenangi.

Teruskan perjuangan membela penggiat-penggiat komik dan kartun tanahair. 

Let’s form a band. What? You can’t play anything? No matter. As long as you have a pair of hands and a burning desire to rock out.

In the 70's, there was a popular catchphrase within the punk rock scene, probably originated from the famous punk fanzine of the time Sniffin' Glue. The catchphrase was "Here's one chord, here's two more, now form your own band." It was a calling that inspired many kids to start picking up the guitar and began playing in bands, regardless of the odds against them. Punk rock, the music genre often associated with that fast, loud and simple rule of "never play anything longer than three minutes or use more than three chords" was perfect for such musical ambition.

Most of the people in punk rock bands aren't really musicians (if you can excuse such geniuses such as Joe Strummer of The Clash or the punk violinist Nigel Kennedy) but they have fire and they ignited their fans with their music. Sid Vicious of The Sex Pistols couldn't really play the bass, but look where it got him. A position in one of the world's most revered punk bands. If you can excuse all the silly antics and the drug overdose, that is.

You're not punk, you say. No matter. It's not about the music, it's the attitude!

Remember the old sage on top of that hill who once said "if you want to do something, just do it." Take your cue from there, do it yourself. Write your own songs and spice it up with your fiery angst. Build our own foundation to spark a bit of fire on your own. Of course, you'd have to have a few likeminded friends to be in your band too.

And then, of course, start practicing! Practice makes perfect. And that is so true. What are you waiting for, geng gundu?

If you want your guitar to last for a life time, then there are a few simple steps to take for you to make sure your guitar maintenances the quality and its performance. It doesn’t matter whether you are a professional musician or someone who likes to play guitar as a hobby. Please take note, taking care of your guitar is very important. Now guitar manufactures take a good care in building their products, and they actually carefully choose different types of wood to craft an instrument which is visually most appealing.

A guitar player should maintain his or her instrument with two things in mind: firstly, to care for the beauty that is natural in a well-crafted guitar that was built from quality woods and secondly, to keep his/her instrument in the safest condition.

To keep and to make sure your instrument in a good condition with 9 simple steps:

>>Clean and polish the top, sides and back of your guitar regularly. You can use a top-of-the line furniture polish to apply to your guitar, or your can buy any number of polishes offered by guitar companies specifically for the guitar application. If you establish a regular clean and polish regimen, your guitar will always look good. The beauty of the woods will be enhanced, and if you should ever decide to part with your guitar, it will bring a premium price because of your efforts.

>>Dress the frets every time you change strings. If you play often, a lot of dirt, grime and oils from your hands can build up on the fret board. This isn't good for the strings and probably affects the sound also. I use a very soft-bristled toothbrush and a little soapy water, and I make sure to wipe the fret dry after cleaning. Use this routine when your change strings and your fret board won't ever have that "soft" feel.

>>Wipe down the neck with a dry cloth after every use to protect your fret board and to prolong string life. Sweat, oils, dirt and grime can accumulate very quickly, and if you wipe the fret board frequently, you can make dressing the frets a much simpler task. You will also prolong string life by removing some of the elements that cause strings to deteriorate.

>>Never expose your instrument to excessive heat or cold for prolonged periods of time. Heat and sunlight can cause premature finish checking, and can make the finely crafted woods in your guitar look old and faded almost overnight. Cold weather might not affect the finish so much, but it can cause damage to binding, inlays and the neck, often requiring unnecessary work with the truss rod. Guitars need a cool, dry environment, so try to keep your guitar in that type of setting.

>>Protect your guitar when it's stored in the case. I'm talking about humidity here, and it can be one of the most insidious enemies to the health of your guitar. You can buy a capsule from your local guitar store that will stabilize the humidity in the case; just put it in your case and it will provide the protection that you need.

>>Regularly check and tighten all screws, strap-pins and tuning machines. This just makes good sense, because you don't want any unneeded rattling or jingling when you're playing your instrument, either at a gig or at home for your own pleasure.

>>Make it a point to regularly clean all metal parts of your guitar with a good metal cleaning compound. Chrome and nickel are notorious for corrosion and tarnish, particularly in certain environments, so setting up a regimen to clean your pickup covers, bridge, and tuning buttons will help in maintaining the visual appeal of your instrument.

>>Avoid things that can cause scratches, dings and other scars on your instrument. Don't wear a belt with a buckle when you have your guitar strapped on; I have seen many beautiful vintage instruments which have been ruined by belt-buckle scratches on the back. Also, buy a stand! Never leave your guitar propped up against the wall or your amplifier-I've seen irreparable damage done to some quality instruments because they fell from being propped up. Spend the money and buy a stand--consider it an investment.

>>Once a year, you need to bring your instrument to your local guitar technician for a complete look-over.  No matter how well you take care of your instrument, the truss rod will need adjusting regularly, and the intonation screws on the pickups will need to be adjusted to ensure that you are getting the balanced sound that you wanted from your very own guitar. Your guitar may need bridge adjustments also, so it's always good to take it in annually to let the expert make the fine adjustments that will give you the maximum in playability.

Blogs has taken the world by storm. Blogging is now no longer the “online journal” you jot your thoughts and feelings in. Blogs are now used as a medium to spread news, political ideas, selling of products and much more. Evidently, with the world globalizing at such a fast pace, blogs too are starting to innovate itself.

Not is it only an individual’s site for his/her’s personal rants, blogs are now used as a channel for advertisements and personal shout outs to the online world.

Admittedly, we make our blogs much more interesting and attract readers by adding photos, audio and sometimes uploading random videos we find from any hosting sites. Because nothing makes blogging worthwhile unless you have some fanatic readers reading it!

Everyone wants a little taste of fame for a while no? As some blog hosts would need other sites to host your photos, audio, videos (e.g Picasa, Photobucket, Imeem, Youtube) you can now find all the needed embedded codes from just one site one click away!

A portal website dedicated to hosting images, audio and videos uploaded by users, Gundu has it all. Nantikan Adiwira Malaysia yang terulung hanya di Gundu!!!

Rolling Stone has called it "the most famous event in rock history." The Woodstock Music and Art Fair, on a 600-acre farm in the township of Bethel, New York, from August 15-18, 1969, represent more than a peaceful gathering of 500,000 people and 32 musical performances.

Woodstock has become an idea that has suffused our culture, politically and socially, as much as musically. Joni Mitchell, who didn't attend but wrote an anthemic song about it, once said, "Woodstock was a spark of beauty" where half-a-million kids "saw that they were part of a greater organism." According to Michael Lang, one of four young men who formed Woodstock Ventures to produce the festival, "That's what means the most to me – the connection to one another felt by all of us who worked on the festival, all those who came to it, and the millions who couldn't be there but were touched by it."

Lang met Artie Kornfeld, a Capitol Records A&R man and songwriter, in late 1968, and the two envisioned producing a festival in Woodstock, New York.and building a building a recording studio there. In search of financing they connected with John Roberts and Joel Rosenman, a pair of young venture capitalists who were already building Media Sound studios, a large-scale recording facility in New York City. In February of 1969, the four men incorporated Woodstock Ventures, Inc., and they began work on the festival. Soon, the conservative townsfolk of Wallkill became alarmed by the growing number of longhairs arriving to prepare the festival grounds, and a number of lawsuits were filed to stop the festival. After weeks of tension, town meetings, and legal maneuverings, Woodstock Ventures were refused permission to produce the festival.The studio project was put on hold so they could focus all their energy on saving the festival. Miraculously, 600 bucolic acres belonging to White Lake dairyman Max Yasgur, in the township of Bethel, New York, were discovered after Lang recieved a call from a local motel owner Elliott Tiber the day after the Wallkill site was lost. Work rapidly got underway to turn the rural acreage into a concert site with camping areas for 200,000. Three weeks later, during the week of August 11, thousands of people from all over the country began flocking to the festival site. 

By Wednesday, August 13, the lush green bowl in front of the massive 75-foot stage was already filled with some 60,000 people. On Friday the roads were so clogged with cars that the only way most artists could reach the festival was by helicopter from a nearby airstrip. Though over 100,000 tickets were sold prior to the festival weekend, they became unnecessary: The fences and gates were never finished and people simply swarmed over those that were in place. "It's a free concert from now on!" was announced from the stage. As John Roberts later pointed out, "It took us eleven years to break even, but it was a success in every other way."
The music was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on August 15, and just after 5 it did, thanks to New York-born folksinger Richie Havens. His improvised and rhythmic "Freedom" set the tone for the weekend. "The vibe at Woodstock was an expression of the times," says Joel Rosenman. "Energized by repugnance for a senseless war and for the entrenched discrimination of the establishment, a spirited but nonviolent counterculture was sweeping the country. That counterculture burst into bloom like the mother of all Mother's Day bouquets at Woodstock."
The occasional cloudburst delayed the primarily acoustic music as Friday night wore on, but eight acts, plus a swami, made it to the stage. Around 2 a.m, Joan Baez closed the first night with the spiritual "We Shall Overcome."

Saturday boasted the most music of the weekend, starting just after noon and continuing until Sunday at dawn (with Jefferson Airplane performing "morning maniac music," as described by Grace Slick). Highlights included the then-unknown Santana in mid-afternoon, and that night spectacular back-to-back performances by Sly and the Family Stone and The Who. Blues-rock was featured via Canned Heat and Mountain, followed by such legendary California-based artists as the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Janis Joplin. Sunday featured another long span of music, though violent thunderstorms wreaked havoc just after Joe Cocker and The Grease Band's finale of "A Little Help From My Friends." The music was delayed until late afternoon but carried on throughout the night with more highlights including the Texas bluesman Johnny Winter and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (their second gig). On Monday morning at 8:30, Jimi Hendrix closed out the festival. His magnificent, improvisational version of "The Star Spangled Banner" has come to symbolize the weekend.

 Around 10:30 a.m. on August 18, the festival came to an end. The innovative concert film Woodstock, directed by Michael Wadleigh, was released in March of 1970 and took the festival's message around the world. The movie documented a community of a half million people who managed to peacefully co-exist over three days of consistent rain, food shortages, and a lack of creature comforts. "Woodstock is a reminder that inside each of us is the instinct for building a decent, loving community, the kind we all wish for," according to Joel Rosenman. "Over the decades, the history of that weekend has served as a beacon of hope that a beautiful spirit in each of us ultimately will triumph."

Recordings of the music played that weekend still evoke the magic and power felt by those who were there. "It was a privilege to help found something that has meant so much to so many," adds Rosenman. "Woodstock turned out to be a sort of permanent relative of the Family of Man—the adventuresome, kind-hearted uncle you're always happy to see at Thanksgiving and graduation. I'm really grateful that we both ended up in the same family."
Two days after Woodstock ended, the New York Times ran an editorial praising what had happened at Bethel (a reversal from a previous editorial condemning the festival). It concluded with a quote from Shakespeare's Henry V, which seems appropriate upon the fortieth anniversary of Woodstock: "He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, will stand a-tiptoe when this day is nam'd."

Internet is the perfect distribution platform where bands can distribute their music fast and get opinions for that matter. Not only that can promote feelings of confidence in their music but also a chance to better themselves with suggestions and tips given by other listeners and fellow musicians. So it is only smart for bands to start introducing themselves to the right group of people, who understand the challenges of a D.I.Y artist, and most importantly supports the growing independent music scene.

Mereka masih “tidak setuju”

Pada 16 Jun 2009 lalu, Gundu sebagai penyokong utama muzik Indie tempatan telah dijemput oleh Fat Boys Records untuk menyaksikan pelancaran album terbaru artis mereka, Disagree yang telah berlangsung pada 30 Jun 2009 di Hard Rock Café.

Hampir lima tahun mereka menghilang. Tiada single, tiada album. Kali terakhir kumpulan Rock Alternatif tempatan, Disagree merakamkan album adalah pada tahun 2004 dengan album bertajuk At the End of the Day.

Ketika masih di bangku sekolah menengah, pada tahun 1995, kumpulan Disagree ini ditubuhkan dengan Zahid dan Hamka sebagai line-up pertama. Kemudian Lan dan Amir melengkapkan line-up mereka. Disagree mula membuat beberapa persembahan di gig-gig sekitar Kuala Lumpur dan berjaya mengeluarkan Demo pertama mereka bertajuk Never Crow Wolf pada tahun 1996.

Mereka pernah mendapatkan bantuan dari label Independent bagi merakamkan demo  kedua, tapi malangnya pengurusan label berkenaan sedang menghadapi beberapa masalah. Maka di atas hajat yang tidak kesampaian, impian mereka terbantut dan mereka terpaksa berhenti buat seketika.

Disagree bangkit semula setelah mereka dijemput untuk membuat persembahan di konsert Rock The World pertama di One Utama. Mereka berjaya menghiburkan 10,000 peminat Indie tempatan. Setelah beberapa ketika, Lan dan Amir telah menyatakan hasrat untuk tidak lagi bersama Disagree. Kehilangan dua line-up, tidak mematahkan semangat mereka untuk terus memperjuangkan muzik Indie. Mereka telah mendapat sentuhan baru dari Aziz dan Ashroff.

Setelah impian mereka untuk merakamkan Demo pada tahun 1997 terbantut, mereka berjaya merakamkan Demo terbaru mereka pada tahun 2001. Demo berkenaan berjaya menarik minat pengikut-pengikut Indie tempatan dalam fenomena Homemade Jam di Malaysia. Demo mereka diputarkan di radio-radio popular tempatan dan mendapat ulasan dan komen positif.

Penerima anugerah Artis Bahasa Inggeris Baru Terbaik (AIM 2005) ini mula bergiat kembali dalam muzik Indie dan berjaya menarik perhatian beberapa penganjur.  Mereka pernah dijemput untuk menyertai Fat Ant Music Festival. Disagree sekali lagi dijemput untuk memeriahkan Rock The World 2 dengan menjadi band pertama untuk membuat persembahan pada hari berkenaan. Semenjak itu, Disagree menjadi band tetap untuk menyertai acara tahunan ini.

Di atas kualiti muzik yang baik dihasilkan oleh Disagree, satu label Independent, Fat Boys Records berminat untuk menjadikan Disagree sebagai artis mereka. Fat Boys juga telah mendapatkan tandatangan band yang sedang melonjak naik ketika itu, Naked Breed.

2004 adalah tahun paling bermakna bagi mereka. Impian mereka untuk merakamkan album tercapai. Disagree telah berjaya merakamkan 11 lagu untuk dimuatkan dalam album At the End of the Day.

Pelbagai anugerah telah mereka raih selama hampir 10 tahun bergiat dalam muzik Indie. Mereka telah mendapat Anugerah Putaran Terbanyak di Anugerah Malaysian English Top 10 Awards, radio inggeris popular tempatan, Hitz.FM. Selain itu mereka juga pernah merangkul anugerah Artis Bahasa Inggeris Baru Terbaik di Anugerah Industri Muzik ke 12, lagu Crumbs berjaya dipilih sebagai single kedua terbaik pada tahun 2003-2004.

Bersama kumpulan Alternatif, Pop Shuvit, Disagree telah berjaya merakamkan single, Football Mad Nation ditujukan khas untuk peminat bola sepak tempatan bersempena pesta Piala Dunia FIFA 2006.

Line-up mereka terkini adalah Zahid selaku vokalis dan pemain gitar utama, Hamka pemain drum, Aziz pemain bass, dan David pemain gitar kedua. Pada tahun 2007, mereka telah bertekad untuk mengeluarkan album baru bagi memenuhi permintaan peminat Indie tempatan.

Setelah melalui beberapa proses rakaman, analisis dan penyempurnaan untuk membuat lagu-lagu baru, pada tahun ini mereka ingin kembali dengan menampilkan album To Prevent the Earth from Moving with You yang dijangka berada di pasaran pada bulan Julai 2009. Gundu menyokong muzik indie Malaysia!

“I don’t actually eat kuay teow but seriously I’m eating this kuay teow goreng now. Orgasmically damn good”

That was one of the many interesting random quotes from those who attended Urbanscapes which was organized by KLue.  Everyone was greeted with beautiful people scattered all over KLPAC. They came in flocks in their handsome and interesting outfits. Colorful helium balloons were used as decorations and the Urbanscapes sign ala Hollywood was a great touch indeed. 

The whole place covered with colors and music. It was true when they claimed the event to be first and only all-day “user-generated” creative arts festival. Those who came have options on ways to enjoy themselves.  The X-Marketplace was a shopping heaven to many. Interesting booths were lined up with clothes, accessories, knick knacks and lots more to be mentioned. The Street Performance section was filled with laughter and happiness. Audiences were treated with interesting and entertaining impromptu activities. Live participations from the public what made the performance even better.

However, the most crowded place was the X-Lawn. Huge stage with huge speakers filled with huge crowd.  It was like a mini concert and people were partying all night long. Gundu was honored to be invited by Celcom to participate in Urbanscape. The top 3 downloaded bands will have the opportunity TO PERFORM AT MTV WORLD STAGE!!

We were surprised by the overwhelming responds from the bands who attended Urbanscapes to perform or just there to support their fellow indie mates. We’re sure there are hundreds more indie bands out there who didn’t make it to Urbanscapes but the opportunity is wide open. So guys, start uploading your original songs and show the world how good your musics are. 

All in all, Urbanscapes 2009 was awesome and we very much looked forward for the next installment in years to come.

One might notice that it isn't hard to feel extreme emotion, but how hard could it be to realise that they aren't permanent? Long-term emotions. How far do they linger on? No, not long-term relationships just long-term emotions. It takes awhile to grow fond and flourish your feelings towards a person, but when it's there you are surely whipped. That's on your side of the lake, what about on the other side? The opposition might propose a different set of feelings. Which relates back to the tango. It takes two to tango. But why does it only take one to hurt?

Vulnerability. Some say its a state of mind, but it is what makes or breaks us. With motivation and pure strength individuals can somehow block this emotion that everyone has got in them. It's not that they don't have it, they are just smart enough to know how to ignore it and take the world on their own and choose not to blame their simple genetical hormones that are programmed in them on any given situation. How many people in this world are lonely? We see movies all about people being alone and sad waiting for a fairytale story and ending up with their perfect match. But how much of these movie-scenes actually happens in real life? Suffice to say that it ain't much.

When vulnerability comes, in parallel so does heartbreak. Admittedly, being heartbroken isn't my field of expertise but I have seen it. Look around, truth is 1 out of 5 people around you have been in that situation. That period of time when all you can think of would probably be pain and death (or somewhat along those painful lines.) Soon after, you hit another phase. The phase where you keep convincing and concealing the truth from everyone. Your answers to questions like "How are you?" and "Are you okay?" would be "I'm fine, as always!" or "I'm okay, why wouldn't I be?!" just like a switch on an automatically response machine triggered by questions asking about your well being. To be honest, it's okay to tell a little white lie just to show the world that you are strong, but it is not okay to keep going when you know that you are not and you know that your fall would come soon. We know that the truth hurts, but the more you run away from knowing the truth, the worst it gets. You're only digging yourself a bigger hole there, the hole goes deeper and deeper but never for the better.

Arguably, some could say that I am stereotyping. Not everyone is like the fore mentioned above, and I know it. Needless to say that the whole world is stereo typed somehow and each and every once of us are bound to stereotype some things in life. I would be a hypocrite if I said I'd never thought of anyone with glasses would/could be a nerd. But I never said that not everyone can be stereotyped. We are made differently, though we might have a few similar traits of our own but we do have differences whether we realise it or not. You may not be able to accurately relate to this piece of writing, but there must be some things that you can associate yourself with. Heartbreak isn’t a state of mind, it is actually an inevitable pain everyone deals with at least once in their life. When the time comes. 

With that simple method you too can become successful in any of your goals.So, let me tell you that this method can really change your life too if you only give it a try!

We went from living in a stressful mood all the time, never expecting anything good could ever happen to us, to being loaded with confidence in our possibilities and chances of being successful in all the aspects of our life! Konsep adiwira atau superhero adalah watak yang mulanya dikembangkan oleh komik. Watak ini mulanya mengambil ilham daripada kekuatan Hercules sebagai gambaran positif seorang adiwira.
 
Watak adiwira yang memiliki definisi sebenar dengan kekuatan yang luar biasa adalah watak Superman atau Clark Kent daripada buku komik tersebut yang terbit pada 1938.
 
Komik mempunyai kelebihannya yang tersendiri dalam mengemukakan konsep adiwira ini berbanding medium yang lain disebabkan komik mampu mengangkat elemen fantastik pada tahap atau peringkat realisme yang sama yang dianggap sukar diterima dalam medium lain dengan tidak dilihat membodohkan.
 
Umpamanya watak adiwira ini yang memakai kostum yang kelihatan ganjil tidak kelihatan aneh sebaliknya normal pada panel lukisan komik berbanding medium yang lain.
 
Malah kemunculan watak adiwira dengan kostumnya yang tersendiri yang berbeza dengan watak-watak yang lain sebenarnya kelihatan “melucukan” dalam medium filem atau televisyen sendiri.

 5. Identify limiting beliefs.
We each carry a set of beliefs that we live by. Certain beliefs you hold consciously, while others are mainly unconscious. Beliefs develop out of past experiences and our interpretations of those experiences. Some of the conscious and unconscious beliefs that you develop limit your ability to grow and move forward in your life. For example: One of your goals as a successful entrepreneur is to make a lot of money. You discover that you have a belief - a limiting one - that it's wrong to make a lot of money. Until you begin to alter your beliefs about money, it will be more difficult for you to achieve that financial success you desire.

Benefits: Learning to notice a limiting belief allows you to become conscious of it, and then change it. Releasing a belief that limits you puts you back in the driver's seat of your life. Ways to spot a limiting belief:
          * You tell yourself that you only have one or two choices in a situation, or "no
             choice" at all.
          * Your inner critic expresses his or her opinion. The inner critic's opinion is
             generally based in a limiting belief.
          * A decision may appear to be black and white to you, or an either/or situation.
          * You have decided that "this is the way the world is."
          * You make a decision based on fear.
          * You feel constricted and notice that you lack clarity about a specific situation.

New Focus: How does a particular belief allow you to attract what you really want in life? How does it prevent you from attaining your goals? When you reach an obstacle in your path, make sure that it's not an old belief in your way.

When important questions like "What do I want?" or "What's the right choice for me to make?" surface in your mind, consult your inner voice. You possess the answers you need to live a life that feels successful and fulfilling. Listening to your inner voice can lead you on a path that feels deeply satisfying. The prank phone call is an April Fool Day’s classic. The way it works is you call someone up and say something that isn’t true. And then when your untruth generates their hilarious reaction, you tell the person what you said isn’t true. And then further hilarity ensues.

What you’ll need:
A parent who loves you
A telephone
A policeman’s uniform and disguise

You’ll need a fake persona for your prank call, and pretending to be a police officer is a good variation on this classic. Sure, impersonating an officer is typically a crime, but it’s April Fool’s Day. The day law forgot! So after you  disguise your voice call someone who really cares about you and tell them you’re dead. Don’t be confused. You’re not a ghost. You’re pretending to be a police officer telling them you’re dead. And not a dead police officer. A police officer advising them that the real you is dead. (Hey, no one said perpetrating classic April Fool’s Day pranks was going to be easy).

Hint: To make this prank believable, you can’t give everything away too quickly:

YOU(as police officer) :Mrs. Jenny?

YOUR MOM :Yes?

YOU :This is Officer Sham. I’m afraid I need you to come down to the station.

YOUR MOM : Why? What’s going on?

YOU : I think it would be best to tell you when you’re at the station ma’am.

YOU : Well, it’s about your son.

Now this part of the prank is critical. You need to allay the victim’s concern at first, to give the subsequent April Fool’s zinger maximum impact:

YOU : Oh, not at all.

YOUR MOM : Oh, you had me worried.

YOU : Yes. I’m sorry. I’m just calling because he’s dead.

YOUR MOM : WHAT?

YOU : Yes. Head sliced clean off in an industrial accident.

Now, this next line might be hard to deliver because you’ll be laughing so hard. I mean, here you have your mom feeling the worst pain she’s ever experienced so it is pretty hilarious, but the joy of April Fool’s Day is sharing the delight of a fun joke well-played. So after about three minutes of gut-wrenching moaning and guttural noises, be sure to scream nice and clear “APRIL FOOL’S DAY!”

SPCA, pernahkah anda mendengar tentang SPCA atau lebih dikenali sebagai Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? Sudah tentu pernahkan? Bagi anda yang tidak tahu apa itu SPCA, SPCA merupakan persatuan kebajikan dalam menyelamatkan haiwan-haiwan peliharaan contohnya seperti kucing,anjing,arnab,hamster dan peliharaan lain yang tidak dijaga dan terbiar.

SPCA sedaya upaya membuatkan haiwan-haiwan ini lebih terjaga nasib mereka dari berkeliaran dan mungkin sekali malang tidak berbau, ada yang mati dengan dahsyat sekali, mungkin dilanggar kenderaan tak pun didera oleh manusia. Kasihankan?

Setiap hari, ‘penghuni’ atau ‘isi rumah’ di SPCA semakin meningkat. Dikatakan, hampir 1,100 binatang diterima masuk setiap bulan di rumah kebajikan ini yang semakin kekurang ruang dan tabung derma.

Terdapat beberapa perkhidmatan yang SPCA ni sediakan contohnya:

1. Program anak angkat

Ha! Anda tak perlu membazir dengan menghabiskan wang ratusan ringgit hanya untuk memiliki haiwan peliharaan anda. Di SPCA, terdapat kucing, anjing, hamster, arnab dan sebagainya yang mengharapkan diri mereka untuk dijadikan sebagai haiwan peliharaan dan dijaga rapi serta disayangi. Jadi, kenapa anda perlu membazir, pergi saja ke SPCA, pilihlah yang mana satu anda ingin jadikan sebagai 'anak angkat' anda. Datanglah ke SPCA bermula jam 9 pagi sehingga 4 petang. Menarikkan?

2.  Pengutipan/Penangkapan haiwan

Di SPCA, terdapat 2 buah ambulan yang beroperasi untuk mengutip dan menangkap haiwan peliharaan yang tidak diingini tetapi anda perlulah membuat 'appointment' dengan dorang dulu. SPCA juga kekurangan kakitangan untuk menangkap, mengejar haiwan-haiwan yang terbiar ini. Jadi, jika anda sebarang pertanyaan hubungilah pihak SPCA di talian (03) 4256-5312 or (03) 4253-5179. Tapi ingat, office hour je ok?

3.  Rawatan untuk haiwan

Haiwan atau binatang yang sakit, cedera, atau terbiar contohnya macam anak-anak kucing atau sebagainya yang kehilangan penjaga atau 'yatim piatu', pihak SPCA akan segera mengambil tindakan dan beroperasi di antara jam 8 pagi sehingga 8 malam. Anda yang sedia ada mempunyai binatang peliharaan jika ingin membuat aduan atau rawatan peliharaan anda, pihak SPCA akan membantu dari segi memberi nasihat dan juga mencadangkan ke mana anda boleh bawa peliharaan anda untuk dibawa ke vet yang berhampiran dengan kawasan anda. Baguskan?

4. Pemeriksaan dan aduan

Pegawai SPCA akan menyiasat aduan-aduan yang diterima berkaitan dengan kekejaman yang dilakukan terhadap haiwan. Identiti mereka adalah sulit, dan panggilan yang ingin main-main, tidak akan dilayan sama sekali. So, janganlah main telefon tu ok? Panggilan yang dilakukan oleh anda mestilah bertujuan.

5. Ceramah serta forum pendidikan

Seperti yang diminta oleh orang awam, ceramah atau forum akan dianjurkan oleh SPCA samada di sekolah, persatuan atau kelab untuk membincangkan tanggungjawab sebagai pemelihara, penjagaan haiwan dan sebagainya.

Haiwan juga sesuatu yang bernyawa seperti manusia. Jika anda manusia yang prihatin, sama-samalah kita membantu haiwan-haiwan yang homeless dan perlukan kasih sayang dari manusia. Bagi anda yang tak suka binatang, tak perlu lah mengambil mereka sebagai 'anak angkat' atau sebagai haiwan peliharaan anda, anda bolehlah menyumbang dari segi kewangan bagi menaik tarafkan rumah kediaman penghuni SPCA ini.

Tanggapan pertama adakah ini performance terakhir dari Butterfingers sebelum masing-masing membawa hala tuju sendiri? Emmett membuka bicara, ianya bukanlah penghujung jalan untuk Butterfingers dalam industri ini. Bagi mereka, ianya merupakan permulaan baru untuk tahun 2009. Mereka akan kembali apabila mempunyai masa yang sesuai untuk bersama semula. Begitu juga dengan Kadak. Masing-masing mempunyai matlamat dan komitmen sendiri.

Butterfingers di Istana Budaya pada 17 dan 18 Januari 2009, dimuatkan dengan 4 sesi untuk 2 hari, ternyata mampu memberi kepuasan kepada mereka yang selama ini menantikan kemunculan Butterfingers yang menampilkan final line-up (Emmett, Loque, Kadak dan juga Loko). 300 tempat duduk dan tiket terhad (siapa cepat, dia dapat), dengan harga RM35 untuk setiap satu sesi dan RM120 untuk keempat-empat sesi serta penampilan khas dari Hujan dan Bunkface! Butterfingers! Butterfingers! Butterfingers!!!
Sekali lagi kumpulan ‘grunge’ ini bakal menggegarkan Kuala Lumpur dengan persembahan yang memberi kelainan dan lebih berprestij di ISTANA BUDAYA.

Temubual eksklusif bersama Emmett, Loque, dan Kadak di Kopitiam 71, Bangsar ternyata sesuatu yang menyeronokkan apabila mereka berkongsi pengalaman dan idea-idea gila mereka.

Butterfingers sudah lama bertapak di dalam industri muzik tanah air. Kontroversi yang pernah mengetengahkan bahawa mereka kurang selesa dengan pihak media pada suatu ketika dulu, ternyata ianya berbeza sekali apabila kami bersua muka dan duduk semeja dalam sesi temubual eksklusif ini. Malah kami disambut baik dan mereka banyak berkongsi cerita mengenai Butterfingers dan diri mereka sendiri.

Lebih dari sedekad lamanya mereka mencipta nama dan merangkak di zaman muda-muda mereka pada permulaannya sehingga hari ini mereka masih lagi teguh dan kekal malah lebih mantap dan tidak mustahil kumpulan ini akan kukuh lagi sedekad yang akan datang.

Ternyata, setiap kali persembahan mereka tidak menghampakan peminat-peminat mereka dari dahulu hingga hari ini. Bezanya, penampilan album atau genre mereka bermula dari album Malayneum sehingga Kembali memberi sedikit kelainan. Tidak se’keras’ album sebelumnya. Menurut Emmett, mereka perlukan sesuatu yang baru, dan perlu meng 'variety' kan konsep untuk Butterfingers sendiri.

KEMBALI , memberi nafas baru kepada mereka apabila lenggok dan style mereka menampilkan kelainan dan ianya lebih berunsurkan kerakyatan. Penampilan khas Pak Kassim Masdor, seorang ahli muzik vateran yang menerapkan unsur-unsur keroncong walaupun ianya bukanlah dapat dikategorikan sebagai keroncong asli. Tetapi ianya keroncong versi Butterfingers! :) Mereka masih berjiwa rakyat!


Album KEMBALI diterbitkan sepenuhnya oleh Penerbitan Butterworld setelah beberapa album mereka dibawah naungan syarikat muzik EMI. Menurut Loque, ianya merupakan satu kepuasan bagi mereka setelah bertahun lamanya dan kebanyakkan album mereka dibawah naungan syarikat tersebut. Ternyata, Butterfingers kini lebih yakin dan mampu berdiri di atas kaki sendiri dan ianya merupakan satu kepuasan bagi mereka dengan kedudukan mereka pada hari ini setelah sekian lama berjuang dalam muzik ‘grunge’ ini.

Hala tuju Butterfingers?
Mereka mempunyai hala tuju hidup masing-masing, Emmett, Loque, Kadak begitu juga Loko walaupun tidak bersama kami pada ketika itu. Loque menyambung semula pelajaran beliau di Berklee College, Amerika Syarikat. Emmett seorang bapa juga merupakan vokalis kumpulan ini akan terbang ke Canada begitu juga Kadak dan Loko yang mempunyai cita-cita yang masih belum dicapai oleh mereka. Walaubagaimanapun, ianya tidak mematahkan semangat kumpulan ini dalam mencari masa bersatu semula untuk Butterfingers. :)

Kemunculan band-band indie baru.
Tidak tergugatkah kedudukan Butterfingers apabila kemunculan band-band baru ini menghilangkan aura kekuatan Butterfingers sendiri. Emmet, Loque dan Kadak ketawa. Bagi mereka kemunculan band-band ini merupakan kesinambungan mereka pada masa akan datang. Persaingan akan wujud, itu adalah adat. Tetapi apa yang berbeza adalah dari segi pengalaman. Ternyata band-band baru ini masih belum mampu menandingi Butterfingers apabila melihat masing-masing mula menjangkau ke arah ‘vateran’ . Menurut Loque, mereka semuanya adalah sahabat, dan sama-sama memaju dan menaikkan taraf industri muzik di Malaysia. Ianya bukanlah sesuatu isu yang besar dalam mengetengah siapa yang lebih hebat.

Kemasukkan band Indonesia di Malaysia.
Isu ini bukanlah sesuatu yang baru. Terlalu banyak band serta artis Indonesia membanjiri Malaysia. Meminta pendapat mereka sendiri, bagi mereka itu adalah kesilapan pihak kita juga dimana, di Malaysia kita kurang menapis kemasukkan artis-artis luar sedikit sebanyak ianya memberi kesan kepada industri muzik Malaysia. Loque juga mengatakan, kita dapat lihat perubahan dengan adanya band-band indie seperti Hujan, Meet Uncle Hussein, Pesawat dan banyak lagi menjadi kegilaan remaja mahupun pelajar-pelajar Universiti pada hari ini. Bentuk dan genre muzik yang dibawa oleh mereka sendiri yang ala-ala lagu Indon mampu mengubah tanggapan dan persepsi serta mentaliti orang Malaysia sendiri. 

Thick thighs, Narrow hips, Thick lips. Thin lips. Big nose, button nose, Fat arms, fat legs. Dark skin, light skin. You are who you are and you got what you got. Can you find the interest, love and courage to love them all (your body)? As a human being God has given us more than enough, so why do we have to be upset and smug about it?

Come to think of it, the beauty comes within your inner self, when you feel confident you will look more beautiful, healthier and happier. But when you are not feeling good about yourself, obviously you would be sad and depress about it. Don’t you think that sometimes it is too much for you to feel bad about yourself every time and moody for no inappropriate reasons?
But if you have the entire negative attitude mentioned above then you might need to reality check on yourself.

We must have a very high spirit and our own vision to be in this world where people are freed from rules, pressure and self-punishment. One of the best way to be positive about yourself is; when you wake up every morning, you should thank your body for resting and rejuvenating itself so you can enjoy the day and when you go to bed every evening you should tell your body how much you appreciate what it has allowed you to do throughout the day.

This positive attitude would make u a better person indirectly. You will feel less moody and down about yourself. Feeling good about yourself will make you as a person to appreciate more and giving your body and yourself a chance to stay healthily.

People of all cultures and sizes should embrace their unique beauty and the standards should be damned. We should be positive with our body image for all. It doesn’t matter, if you are fat or skinny or just nice but sometimes this self cautious attitude that you’ve been dealing with is not good for your health. That is why we heard about some girls who had been hospitalized caused of inappropriate diet and exercise.

Our body needs a good rest, a healthier food and lifestyle. We should take a good care of it, and be thankful enough for what god has given us. Show to God our appreciation towards our body by taking care of it and be grateful with who we are.

Ask yourself today: What if you didn't have to change anything about yourself? Or, what if you only made changes based on self-love? Once we stop "fixing" ourselves, we become free to invent lives that inspire and excite us--full lives we can actually enjoy. Imagine the possibilities, Think back to a time in your life when you felt good about your body.

Tell yourself you can feel like that again, even in this body at this age. Don’t Weigh Your Self-Esteem. It’s what’s Inside That Counts!

Do you have a best friend? Someone that you’ve been hanging out with for quite some time, and you and your best friend never had any strong argument like others do? Well then, we all are the same. I do agree that we all need a best friend. We need someone to share our everyday life with someone. A best friend is someone special that you could trust and count on, someone that you could share your thoughts with and experience the most exciting moment and also the worst moment with you, and no matter what he or she is still by your side until today.

My best friend is one of my schoolmates. We have known each other since we were 11 years old and still till now we are there for each other. If I were to describe how she looks, I would say she is very pretty. She has short brown hair, brown almond-shaped eyes, a small nose and a small pointed chin. She is not very tall but not short either and she is petite. She is a simple person and don’t like to dress up, so I usually see her wearing jeans and a T-shirt or sweater.

It seems like she and I are always talking or laughing about something. She has a very nice personality and a wonderful sense of humor and it’s a bit rare to see her depressed from time to time. I can always count on her to be honest and to give me the best advice. She is also my confidante, because I know she would be honest in giving her comments about it and what she really thinks about that situation.

We have the same interest and in many of the same hobbies. We both enjoy music and singing. We like going to the cinema but sometimes can't agree on which movie to see. Sometimes we just walk around, trying to find a new area of the city to explore. We usually spend most of the day swimming or exploring the area and sometimes we just hang out at home or at the shopping mall. Whatever we're doing, it's always fun to be with her, she is my confidante then, now and forever. I know I can always rely on her.

Ever wondered what it would be like to live next to a dumpsite or to see a skyline dotted with hills of rubbish instead of green natural ones? It the lifestyle re-use, recycle and reduce does not begin now, this picture may be a reality in the near future.

You may have seen reports in the press questioning the value of recycling your household waste. It is true that like many areas of the economy, the prices of recycled materials have been fluctuating.  They rose earlier in the year and more recently some have fallen.

Simply define, recycling means using things that have already been used to make new things. Reusing things as they are, and giving things you no longer need for other people to use.
 
Our overwhelming advice to Malaysian people is to continue recycling whatever you can. While some parts of the country have been affected, the demand for high quality recycled materials still exists.

The need to recycle our waste is that we will only add to the amount of waste that goes to landfill, with the worst possible environmental consequences. Inevitably, some types of material have been more affected than others and will take longer to get back to normal.

4 tips to start recycling at home:-

1. Keep your recycling bin next to the main bin so you can take out the rubbish and recycling at the same time.
2. Make recycling part of your weekly supermarket trip and “drop when you shop” at supermarket recycling centres
3. Some things need to be washed before you put them out for recycling – use your old washing up water to give them a quick rinse
4. Mark the date on the calendar or request a recycling calendar from your council

There is no more land available in Kuala Lumpur for landfills and this is an urgent matter which needs to be addressed. There is no comfort as garbage cannot be disposed of indiscriminately. If we burn or incinerate the rubbish, non-governmental organizations will protest.

Every Malaysian produces an average of 0.8kg og waste a day, but in Kuala Lumpur it is 1.5kg of waste per person each day which amounts to 15,000 tonnes of solid waste daily. Only a little amount of this waste is being recycled. Frankly, Malaysia has to import more than 30,000 tonnes of waste paper every month from all over the world to manufacture needed paper products. Lack of concern from public will only ruin the campaign to save the world.

Our world is no longer healthy. We must stop throw out biodegradable waste. Forests are dying and resources are depleting now. Our world deserves a better future.

Kebanjiran artis dan kumpulan muzik Indonesia ke Malaysia mulai menampakkan dominasi kumpulan muzik dan artis Malaysia semakin berkurangan. Keadaan ini di anggap sebagai meng’anaktiri’kan karya tempatan dan meminggirkan industri muzik Malaysia.

Peluang yang cukup besar telah diberikan kepada artis-artis luar Malaysia untuk berkarya dan mencari rezeki di Malaysia tetapi keadaan adalah sebaliknya sekiranya artis-artis Malaysia berada di negara Indonesia itu. Memang benar ada juga artis Malaysia sudah menempa nama di Indonesia, tetapi hanya segelintir sahaja.

Mereka menganggap hasil seni dan karya artis-artis Malaysia ini tidak berkualiti berbanding artis-artis yang mereka hasilkan. Mereka tidak memandang kepada populariti seseorang artis itu tapi melihat kepada seni suara yang dicipta dan persembahan.

Kenyataan artis-artis tempatan tentang peluang yang telah diberikan kepada artis-artis Indonesia dan artis tempatan mempersoalkan peluang mereka di Indonesia itu. Mereka mendakwa ini adalah masalah yang sebenarnya.

Permasalahan ini sangat serius kerana karya-karya tempatan di anggap tidak sebaik karya-karya luar. Artis-artis luar di angkat sebagai penghibur masa kini. Setiap tahun konsert-konsert artis Indonesia akan diadakan dengan sokongan syarikat-syarikat tempatan.

Tambahan lagi, lagu-lagu Indonesia sudah menjadi kegemaran kepada pelajar-pelajar dari luar negara yang menuntut di universiti tempatan sehingga ada yang sudah menghafal setiap lagu yang diputarkan di radio tempatan.

Kedatangan artis Indonesia ke tanah air bermula sejak pertengahan 90an dengan kemasukan kumpulan muzik Sheila On 7, Dewa, Rossa, Padi dan lain-lain. Ini bukan sahaja dari segi muzik, tapi filem juga telah di bawa masuk ke pasaran Malaysia. Tayangan filem pertama Indonesia Ada Apa Dengan Cinta di panggung-panggung tempatan telah memberikan kesan cukup besar pada industri perfileman tanah air.

Penyedia rancangan stesen television tempatan dan lain-lain juga menayangkan filem-filem, sinetron dan drama dari negara Indonesia. Astro juga telah menyediakan beberapa saluran istimewa hanya untuk menayangkan telefilem, drama, sinetron dari negara jiran Indonesia. Ini menambahkan lagi jumlah peminat artis Indonesia yang sedia ada.

Majoriti radio swasta tempatan juga sudah memutarkan dan menyokong artis-artis Indonesia sejak kebelakangan ini.

Sokongan dan penajaan dari syarikat-syarikat besar untuk menaja konsert-konsert artis Indonesia juga menampakkan begitu besar “fan base” artis-artis ini di Malaysia. Penajaan ini dibuat atas dasar keuntungan semata-mata. Artis-artis Indonesia itu perlu menjadi ikon untuk barangan mereka.

Menurut kenyataan artis popular tempatan, mereka tidak cemburu di atas kejayaan artis-artis Indonesia di Malaysia tetapi mereka bersimpati terhadap penggiat-penggiat seni tanah air yang baru untuk melangkah ke dunia hiburan.

Terdapat beberapa artis tempatan telah mengatur strategi baru untuk meraih sokongan dari peminat-peminat tempatan dengan penggunaan bahasa. Peralihan penggunaan gelaran ‘kau, engkau’ kepada ‘kamu’ di dalam penciptaan lagu-lagu mereka telah membuahkan hasil.  Lazimnya, gelaran ‘kamu’ itu digunakan oleh artis-artis Indonesia.

Hakikatnya, setiap lagu atau pun hasil seni karya itu bergantung kepada tahap kualiti yang dipersembahkan. Bukan kepada populariti artis itu. Penggiat seni, karyawan, penghibur dan lain-lain perlu menganggap ini sebagai satu persaingan yang sihat. Tunjukkan kebolehan hasil seni Malaysia. Tidak perlu untuk di bawa ke luar negara cukuplah sekadar menempa nama di tanah air untuk permulaan.
